A winery that combines tradition in what it does, with a modern approach…

As part of my tour of the Asolo Montello region I had an appointment to visit Montelvini winery and the opportunity to meet current president Armando Serena (since 1968) who not only still helps in the operation of his winery today, he also is president of the regional DOCG area.

Despite playing a big part in the build and success of the Montelvini brand, Armando has a great love for the wine region of the Asolo Montello DOCG and must be also credited for leading the current consortium on a more or less voluntary basis in order to promote all wines and winemakers of the area. During my stay, I was fortunate to meet Armando on a few occasions to include having a very relaxing evening meal to discuss ideas and ways forward for Asolo DOCG Prosecco and especially its current presence in the UK.

For those who have not been to this region of the Prosecco DOCG then it really is worth visiting and for any company out there wishing to explore in detail any business relationship should contact the official website of Asolo Montello here: www.asolomontello.it/contatti

Though I must now concentrate on the winery Montelvini, better known to many in the world of wine as the ‘Owl‘. Its foundations were set back in 1881 and through many generations of the Serena family have built one of the regions strongest names for Asolo DOCG with a co-operative built platform of winemaking offering some of the best examples of Prosecco DOCG wines.

The soul of Montelvini is traditional in terms of wine production methods and modern in terms of its business management model, constantly keeping up with the times. Today, in fact, Armando Serena is flanked by his children Alberto, vice president and sales manager for the company and Sarah, administrative and head of marketing and communications.

To me Montelvini is very much a brand that represents Asolo, deep roots in its history and importantly traditions too where all of this is expressed within the wines which for any wine lover across the world will say is the most important thing about any winery, ‘is it recognisable and does it offer a glimpse of the region in the glass’. I was also fortunate enough to visit one of Montelvini’s latest acquisitions in a historical parcel of vineyard that is located centrally in the old town of Asolo, this really is a special purchase and I very much look forward to tasting the wine from this parcel of terroir. Here I took a tour with both Armando and his son Alberto:

The winery itself is also an impressive set up allowing for big volume production, expansion for this brand is certainly achievable for not only the set up they have, but importantly because of the quality of their wines. I was certainly impressed both with branding and packaging of the Montelvini brand, from the moment you visit their website online and watch their movie to the time the bottles are brought out for a tasting. Their range is quite impressive too from DOCG to DOC with a wide selection to choose from and most certainly to cater for any Prosecco taste. All my reviews are on Vivino.
