Light & Fruity – B.Brut – Rosé

A light and easy to drink fruity wine.

A fresh, fruity and easy to drink sparkling wine. Salmon-coloured rosé with aromas of raspberries, mango and strawberries. It pairs well with oily fish and light desserts.

Meditation – Codorniu – Jaume Gran Reserva

An addictive wine for those special relaxing times. This wine will express itself more and more the longer it is opened and the longer it stays in your glass.

Codorníu has the oldest winemaking history of Spain. This Gran Reserva Cava is a limited edition with numbered bottles. It has intense and complex primary aromas of peach, redcurrant and melon which then goes on to express itself with nuts, toasted bread and honey. Creamy and elegant with a lingering finish, this is a perfect relaxing sparkling wine. It pairs well with fish, seafood and poultry.

Gastronomic – Champagne Autréau – 1670 Grand Cru 2005

Complex wine with enough body to accompany most popular main dishes.

The Champagne is only made in exceptional years and the vintage brings out a true feeling of passion and wisdom. With aromas of brioche, apples and honey and flavours of dried apricot, and pastry this is a truly elegant Champagne. It pairs beautifully with food and can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes including fish and meat.

Highly complex aromas and a lengthy taste explosion of many layers.

This vintage Champagne is rich in aromas with toasty notes and hints of raisins and dried fruits. The flavours develop with many layers including brioche and nuts. It pairs well with roasted quail, lobster and foie gras.

A great example of a boutique grower producer of English sparkling wine from Sussex. This sparkling wine has aromas of apple, citrus and peach. There is a real taste explosion of ripe baked-apple and yellow stone fruit and a long finish of peach, apple and lemon zest.

Classic & Elegant – Champagne Deutz – Vintage 2012

This will likely be a stylish wine showing balance with a refined quality.

This vintage Champagne is elegant and powerful with ripe fruit aromas and notes of sun-filled peaches and gooseberries. It is a classic Champagne with a fruity and creamy flavour. It pairs well with veal, crab, and white truffle risotto.

Hint of Spice – Les 12 De Versailles – Spicy Rose

This wine will offer a bit of a kick with a spicy tone.

The N°1 of the Fragrance Collection, Spicy Rose is produced in France. It has a beautiful aroma that originates from the natural extracts of the Damask Rose. A flower pepper cultivated in the King’s Vegetable Garden in Versailles gives the sparkling wine a definite taste of spice, a truly distinctive wine.

A wine that will likely be citrus flavoured with a definite zing to it.

This English sparkling wine is from South Downs National Park in Hampshire. It has beautiful creamy lemon aromas. The lively citrus flavours are well balanced with the lemon tart notes and a toasty finish. It pairs well with an omelette.

First Date – Gusbourne Estate – Rosé 2014

Nothing too complex and not necessarily needs to pair with exact foods.

This sparkling wine is typical of the ‘Garden of Eden’ and is produced in Kent. It has a delicate pink colour with aromas of soft summer berries and floral notes. This exceptional rosé celebrates the superb climate of Marlborough, New Zealand. A delicate salmon pink colour this wine offers a balance of subtle cherry, raspberry and almond hints. With a beautiful strawberry flavour. It pairs well with fish and seafood.

Summer Days – Zlata Radgonska – Penina Rose 2012

Refreshing and crisp tasting, ideal for time spent in the sun / shade.

This sparkling wine is from Slovenia. It has aromas of sour cherry, red plum, raspberry and strawberry. This sparkling wine is fruity, refreshing, crisp and easy to drink making it perfect for enjoying on a Summer’s Day. It pairs well with pasta and shellfish.

Oaky & Toasty – Champagne Roger Brun – La Pelle 2013

Will likely have been aged in oak barrels and have a toasty flavour.

This is an exceptional Champagne with a fantastic depth and character to it. Aged in oak barrels it has aromas and intense flavours of toast and brioche. This is also a great Champagne to pair with food, it pairs well with lobster and sushi.

Spring Fling – Astoria – Prosecco Superiore Millesimato ‘017

Floral, blossom aromas and flavour that immediately hits the spot.

Located in one of the most beautiful wine-growing areas in Italy, the Prosecco DOCG Conegliano Valdobbiadene area this is a premium Prosecco. It has floral and fruity aromas of spring blossom, white peach and melon with a soft aromatic flavour. It pairs well with fish.

Creamy – Villa Sandi – Opere DOC Serenissima

Soft rounded wine that gives buttery / creamy experience of aromas and taste.

This traditional method sparkling wine is from Italy. It has aromas of ripe white fruits, buttered bread and a creamy sweetness. It pairs well with pasta and shellfish.

Forget Me Not – Jožef Jazbec – Črna Penina Chateau Intanto

A unique taste. There’s something different about this wine making it stand out.

This is a truly unique sparkling wine from Slovenia. It is dark red in colour, with fruit blossom, cherry and plum aromas. Amazing dry concentrated dark berry fruit flavours.

Winter Warmer – Alberto Quacquarini – Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOCG Dolce

Perfect on a winter’s evening sat in front of the fire, likely to be a fuller flavoured wine.

This sparkling wine is from Le Marche, Italy. It is ruby red with purple tints in colour and has aromas of blueberry, cherry and raspberry. With flavours of fresh red fruit including raspberry and plum, it is a full flavoured wine with hints of white pepper and spice and a sweetness that makes for an enjoyable relaxing glass. It pairs well with chocolate mousse and Pecorino cheese.

Dessert – Conte Leopardi – Spumante Dolce

A stand out sweeter tasting wine that will pair well with most dessert dishes.

Located at the foot of Monte Conero, the only mountain in Italy that reaches the coast. This sweet sparkling wine has aromas of pear and orange blossom. It has a creamy and fruit filled taste which pairs well with desserts.

Michael Edwards Award – Roederer Estate – Quartet

A wine that stands out most for our honorary judge.

Quartet is produced by Champagne Louis Roederer in the Anderson Valley in California. The sparkling wine is crisp, fresh and elegant with flavours of pear, floral red apple, hazelnut and brioche. It pairs well with egg dishes, sushi and spicy Asian food.

The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly 2018 – Villa Sandi – Opere DOC Serenissima

Villa Sandi is owned by the Moretti Polegato family. It stands at the foot of the Treviso hills in Italy. Villa Sandi is a wine label that is steeped in history and traditions yet focused on innovation and expansion. They produce a great range of wine including Prosecco, from entry level DOC Prosecco to the premium Cartizze.

The sparkling wine that won the overall title for The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly 2018 is a traditional made sparkling wine. It has aromas of ripe white fruits, buttered bread and a creamy sweetness. It pairs well with pasta and shellfish.
