South African producer, Benguela Cove, have bought a golf course in Sussex to turn into a vineyard.

They propose to turn one of the 102-year-old club’s 18-hole courses to nine holes and develop a 45-acre vineyard on the site. It will be planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes with the aim to produce English sparkling wine.

The end result will combine wine and golf with a ‘Golf & Wine Estate’ offering a range of wine tastings and fine dining alongside the golf.

The West Sussex region is home to other successful wine estates such as Ridgeview, Bolney Estate and Wiston Estate.
