Major supermarket Lidl has reported a huge growth in sales of Prosecco – 79% in a year.

Despite dry January, people are still keen on a bottle of bubbly. Thanks to the affordable prices of Prosecco at Lidl, from as little as £4.99 for Allini Proseeco Treviso Frizzante. it’s becoming more of an everyday luxury.

Lidl isn’t the only supermarket reporting an increase in sparkling wine sales; Aldi sold approximately 69,000 bottles of Prosecco per day over the Christmas period. Included in that total is 47,918 magnums at £12.99 and 70,726 mini bottles at £2.15 although the majority were bottles at £5.39.

Over the past 5 years, sales of Cava and Prosecco have risen over 80%. The popularity of Prosecco has surged over the past few years, first overtaking Champagne sales in 2015. This phenomenon is in part thanks to the Italian fizz’s affordability and light, fruity taste which makes it especially popular amongst the younger generations.
