Condé Nast Johansens announced the winners of the Champagne Taittinger UK Wine List Awards 2017.

The joint overall winners were Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa and Park House restaurant in Cardiff.

Lynn Murray commented – ‘It is not often the judges debate and debate and are unable to come to a conclusive winner and only once before in the awards history has this happened. 2017 was one of those years and it was decided this year to award overall winner to both Chewton Glen and Park House Restaurant. Both very different, but remarkable lists. Both winners were an Aladdin’s Cave for the judges’.

Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa, New Forest, Hampshire also won the category of Best Champagne List

Chewton Glen have an extensive and interesting list of Champagne and in fact, other sparkling wines including an impressive range of English ones reflecting its quintessential English roots. They introduced interest through vintage verticals and had top Champagnes by the glass.”

All Special Commendations receive a Magnum of Taittinger Brut Réserve NV. The Category Winners receive a Jeroboam of Taittinger Brut Réserve. The Overall Winner receives a weekend for two in Reims, including a tour and tasting at Champagne Taittinger’s Cellars, two nights with dinner, bed and breakfast and return travel.

The judging panel was headed up by Sarah Jane Evans, award winning wine and food writer and Master of Wine. The judges were particularly impressed by the short, well-constructed, easy to navigate lists with good succinct information.

Clear trends this year included the number of lists featuring fine wine by the glass and the excellent value offered by many. The best lists are getting more friendly and consumer centric, breaking down the traditional barriers.
