Champagne Bruno Paillard Launches N.P.U. Nec Plus Ultra 2003

Champagne Bruno Paillard has launched the fifth vintage of its Prestige Cuvée, N.P.U. ‘Nec Plus Ultra’, in the UK.  Literally translating as ‘there is nothing beyond’, the concept of N.P.U. ‘Nec Plus Ultra’ is to create an ultimate expression, producing – without constraints of cost – the greatest possible Champagne.

Having created previous vintages from 1990, 1995, 1996, and 1999, Bruno Paillard’s newest vintage is from 2003.  Even though this vintage was hit by unusually harsh spring frosts, several hailstorms, and a long heatwave, this wine has not only survived, but challenged the notion that no great wine could result from 2003.

The Champagne is a deep, yellow gold with tin,y but lively bubbles. It has wonderful aromas of beeswax notes and honey, with slight cedar wood sensation and white flowers. On the palate it is very gentle with a creamy effervescence, with further aromas of candied orange peel and ginger.

Only 4,200 bottles (all individually numbered) of N.P.U. 2003 were created. It is available from UK agent Bibendum PLB group, with an RRSP of £160.
