Celebrity Interview: Adele Parks

Adele has published 15 novels in 15 years, all of which have been bestsellers. She’s sold three million copies of her work in the UK alone, but is also translated into 26 different languages. She published her first novel, Playing Away, in 2000; that year the Evening Standard identified Adele as one of London’s ‘Twenty Faces to Watch’ .

Her first 13 novels were contemporary novels but her last two, Spare Brides and If You Go Away are historical, looking at issues surrounding WWI, but always wrapped up in a romance because Adele believes love is all.

Adele is also passionate in her belief that reading is a basic right and she is an Ambassador for the charity The Reading Agency, which means she’s heavily involved in projects such as The Six Book Challenge and World Book Night.

Where’s the most memorable place you’ve ever enjoyed a Glass of Bubbly?

This is possibly the most pretentious thing about me but I don’t drink anything other than Champagne! This hasn’t always been the case but I’ve discovered that Champagne really works for me, so for about the last ten years it’s all I‘ve touched. It’s not a drink people tend to over-do and it’s not always available so, if it’s not, then I opt for a soft drink. By only drinking Champagne I effectively manage to stay well within the recommended weekly units! However, as it is my drink of choice I’ve been very lucky and managed to drink it in some awesome places! I think I’d have to say it was when I had a glass with my afternoon tea in the Burj Khalifa, the a mega-tall skyscraper in Dubai. It is the tallest structure in the world, standing at 829.8 m

What does Champagne mean to you?

A: Success
B: Celebration
C: Romance
D: Enjoying great company

All of the above.
